Crockpot Green Split Pea Soup

Ingredients
- 1 pound green split peas, rinsed
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ham bone or 2 cups diced ham
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 2 bay leaves
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Rinse the split peas under cold water and set aside.
- Layer Ingredients: Place the split peas, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, and ham into the slow cooker.
- Season and Add Liquid: Add thyme, salt, pepper, chicken broth, and bay leaves.
- Cook: Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until peas are tender.
- Remove Bay Leaves: Discard bay leaves before serving.
- Serve: Stir well and serve hot.
